Workshop on “Marine Megafauna Bycatch Data Collection and Mitigation” held in Nouakchott (Mauritania). 10-12 November 2026.

This workshop was organized by REDUCE project in collaboration with BirdLife International (BLI), the Partenariat Régional pour la Conservation de la zone côtière et Marine (PRCM) and the Institut Mauritanien de Recherches Océanographiques et des Pêches (IMRO) aimed at regional onboard observers. Participants acquired updated knowledge on bycatch of sea turtles, seabirds, elasmobranchs (sharks and rays) and marine mammals, biology, ecology and species identification of these taxa, standardizing bycatch data collection protocols, mitigation techniques and best practices for safe handling & release of bycatch specimens (sea turtles, seabirds, sharks & rays and marine mammals),
