REDUCE was participating in the IV Conference on the Ocean Decade in Cabo Verde. This is part of the global commitment to strengthen the protection and sustainable use of the oceans, in line with the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). This event was opened by the President of Cabo Verde, José M. Neves, has opened the IV Conference on the Decade of the Ocean, taking place in Ilha de Fogo from 10-11 October 2025
For two days, national and international authorities, UN, FAO and UNESCO representatives, scientists (including REDUCE´s Coordinator, Jacob G.Solis), NGOs and other stakeholders discussed topics and issues around marine knowledge, open science and global cooperation for the sustainable future of the oceans. Jacob González-Solís, REDUCE project coordinator presented the project activities in the area and provided information on “Relevant areas for seabirds in Cabo Verde and interactions with small scale fisheries”, whithin the section of future directions for marine conservation and marine protected areas.
